  • 1 column

    COLUMN, PILLAR
Column означает 'колонна' (обычно служащая украшением), а также 'колонка, столбец, столбик, столб': the Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square, а также column of smoke, column of figures, column of mercury in a thermometer. Pillar обозначает любую колонну, преимущественно колонну, являющуюся опорой, на которой держится крыша здания: the marble pillars of the cathedral; употребляется также метафорически в значении 'столп': pillars of society.
